I was playing this on piano last night and thought it would be a good post for today since there seems to be an abundance of extra hate floating around these days. “All these times I go through life’s crazy changes, love is all I know, and I really hope that it’s contagious, and if you feed it, it will grow”. Thanks for listening!
2nd song from Getaway Plans remix featuring the great Jason Fuller on piano. This is by far my most popular song in Morganton, my home town, because it is about a true story of what we saw one night at the 3 Way Supply up at Lake James. It’s a funny song without a chorus, just a good old americana instrumental breakdown. Thanks for listening!
I wrote this on my anniversary a few years ago and luckily it turned out to be one of Adair’s favorite songs! What seemed to be a quick and simple little song turned out to have some legs. You gotta love it when that happens.
I’m playing all the instruments except for John Kell’s sax, which gives it a bit of a Van Morrison feel. Adair’s singing backing vocals with Rob Sankey, John Kell and me. The song also features Ringo, my scruffy little dog, singing along to my harmonica at the end of the solo. Listen closely to see if you can hear it.
Thanks for listening!
I just moved back to lovely East Atlanta and am in the process of building my new studio. So I thought it might be appropriate to post songs from my album “Getaway Plans” this week and next. It was the album I made just before I left Athens in 2004 and released the night before I moved out of town. We had a fun CD release party for it at the Roadhouse.
This song (and several more on the album) features the great Dr. Andrej Kurti on violin.
I was in Nashville last week playing a few songwriter nights while I was there on business and remembered how much I loved this song. ‘Wild Man’ has some of my favorite lyrics of all my songs. It was written on mandolin and is a story of a tragic rocker living the high life on the edge. The end has a twist.
This was performed by the Parakeet Nelson band of 2003 featuring John Wayne Tuggle on lead guitar. It is available on my “Getaway Plans” album. Thanks for listening!
I guess I better post this song before all the leaves fall off the trees. This song has an especially jamming instrumental section in the middle and an even better one at the end. Thanks for listening!
Home for the weekend to see my wife. Working 1200 miles away from home really makes you appreciate your relationships. That made me think of this song today. ‘Crazy or Crazy in Love’ was written and recorded during my song a day year in 2010 and has been a great live song for us ever since. Thanks for listening!
How about a ‘Carolina Song’ for this beautiful crispy Saturday morning. “Carolina Wind” is my tribute to the drive from Georgia to NC, one I’m quite familiar with to say the least. Thanks for listening!
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
