Most folks know my family has been through a life changing event of late. It’s been rough but we are getting through it as best we can. It happened right after I started posting songs from ‘Getaway Plans’ week before last. Ironically, this song seems to fit perfectly with the outpouring of support from all of our family and friends. It’s amazing what folks have said and done, they have truly been our Lucky Umbrella.
Over the years, I’ve had multiple people tell me that this song has helped them through some tough times which makes me feel like I can make a difference with songwriting (aside from just getting people to shake their booty). Please pass it along to someone in your life who’s had some tough times. Maybe we can make a difference together.
My song that is very fitting for today. Hopefully wherever you are the kids are out of school and having fun in the snow. This tune is about that. And if you’re in Atlanta, I hope you are not stuck in the massive traffic jam.
Working and temporarily living in Rhode Island is really putting my home life and how much I miss it in perspective. For some reason this song makes me feel a little better this evening.. Thanks for listening!!
It feels like fall outside this morning in Atlanta. I can’t believe it after the heat we’ve been having. Although I’m sure by one or two it will be in the mid 90’s again. But for now, I can breath in and think of fall.
That’s why I decided to post “Carolina Trees”. To me, since I wrote the original version of this song when I was 17, it has been the ultimate portrait of sitting on top of Table Rock and looking out at the changing leaves below. This version is from my Carolina Songs album brings the country heat. Especially once the solos kick in about half way through, then there’s an extended jam at the end with me playing harmonica and guitar harmonies on top of each other.
I may live in Georgia, but my (tree) roots will always be in the NC mountains.
I’ll post another song for today since I haven’t been around to post many this week. This is my song of the day from last year on May 7th. I should have renamed it “What a Beautiful Feeling because it’s Pay Day!”. Thanks for listening!
I’m heartened by all of today’s B-day wishes. I appreciate it very much! Today’s song is what I recorded last year on this day and it rocks pretty good. “Another year older/ another year wiser / another entrée / another appetizer”, pure poetry right?
Rough start to the work week already. I think I need an injection of feel good music. Here it is!
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
