Another Friday already. As I sit here, I hear a tiny mouse scratching in my wall. Undoubtedly, the cats haven’t gotten to him yet. I usually hear him when I’m working really late at night out here. I kind of like it. Late night solo recording sessions don’t seem so lonely. Thanks for listening!
I’ve been accused a few times about not being able to make a decision.. Mostly when it comes to which restaurant to go to, but there have been several times in my life where I honestly couldn’t decide which way to go. and I usually chose the wrong way. That’s kind of what this song is about. You can get in the habit of making bad decisions. You really can. But the good news is, you can also get in the habit of making the right decisions. Thanks for listening!
I’m gradually working on this site as I get a little more free time. Being able to listen to the songs here is much better. Anyway, it’s been nice to be at home, not traveling and being productive. I had a really good time writing and recording this one today.
This is one that just kind of flowed out. The punch line is “Love reigns supreme, It’s just that humans don’t believe it yet”
Thanks for listening!!
I’ve been listening to Einstein’s biography driving up and down the mountain for the last few weeks. With all the relativity stuff I have to listen to the same cds over a few times to try to comprehend it. And not being a physicist, I still don’t comprehend it.
But I can write a song about it! Thanks for listening!
I unleashed my white legs on the world today. Spring is officially here, the shorts are out!
I’ve now got a new studio mate, a new puppy named Mozart, to go along with Wario, my cat and long time studio mate. It’s great to get moral support from them. They always give me good feedback. Lionel my other cat drops by the studio from time to time to lend imput but he’s heard too many loud noises in here and isn’t as keen on the studio scene.
Today’s song is “The Truth Might Hurt” it’s the first thing that popped out after my bad outing in the money game at the golf course this morning. Never play golf for money after four hours sleep and an out of town gig.

The work week is going once again and once again I’m pretty sore. This week I’ve decided that I’m going to starting getting up earlier (around 4:30 am) to work on these songs. Once I travel out of town to do recycling, it puts me behind every week. So far I haven’t worked my way all the way down to 4:30 but I’m working on it. I’ve got to make myself go to bed earlier for one thing.
Today’s song comes from an old song of mine that I’ve rewritten. For some reason this song was on my mind. It touches on saving someone from depression and suicide. Kind of depressing stuff in it’s own right, I guess they all can’t be happy songs.
I can’t believe this is the first song I’ve written about barbeque since I’ve been doing this song a day thing (or anytime for that matter). On my recycling route and generally driving everywhere in the South, you see a barbeque place every few miles. When I lived in Athens, Georgia I was quite the connoisseur, that is until I got debilitating ulcers. But I’m over that now and eat BBQ a few times month and I’ve tasted hundreds of different kinds, even what they call BBQ in remote places like Germany and Amsterdam.
After all my travels, Hursey’s BBQ in Morganton is still my favorite. I used to convince Amy to eat there every day when I worked at Schoenen Pool and Spa about twelve years ago. That’s what I thought of when I wrote this song.
Today was a busy start to the work week. I’m sore already but that means we got a lot of stuff recycled.
Speaking of recycling, the sequence of this song was something that was made on my Triton some time in the last few years. I happened to hear it and decided to take it in a different direction. This used to be the way that I’d demo all of my songs. I was more comfortable playing keyboard drums. Now you can’t keep me off the real drums. That’s why I made a concerted effort to do a song like this today.
This is my tribute to those long-lost guitar days. Not particularly what I feel in real life but it paints a funny picture.
As this day goes every week, I’m worn out from recycling and ready to go to bed at a decent hour. I was inspired to get home and write today after listening to Bob Dylan’s ‘Chronicles’ auto biography on my iPHone as I worked today. What an amazing story his is. His first recording session was as a harmonica player for Harry Belafonte. That’s pretty cool.
We go see him play every few years and I’m the only one that gets it. He plays his voice like a jazz instrument and people don’t realize that.
Some phrase Dylan says in the book is similar to the title of “Things happen for a reason for no reason”. That along with Dylan’s biography and the George Washington biography I’m also listening to inspired this song.

Science research just found out that the human brain is not fully developed until men turn 25 and it’s a little sooner for women. So basically we are clinically insane until we’re about 25.
That’s why we do so many crazy things at an early age and eventually start becoming more sensible. And it’s also why we’ll do the craziest things and feel the craziest things when we’re young and in love.
That’s what “Crazy or Crazy in Love” ponders, ‘are you really crazy or is being in love what is making you do crazy things.’
