Karma Dharma #8 from My Old Soul

It’s no secret I’m in to #personalgrowth.  My songs reflect it more than occasionally and heck, my wife,  has two #selfhelp books out on the market (adaircates.com).  That doesn’t mean I can’t poke fun at it a bit every now and then.  With all the seminars, countless books and spiritual practices I’ve consumed, I feel like I can do that and still “feel light” as they say.

That said, I have to say just how much getting into self-help changed the trajectory of my life.  It started with reading The Secret and going to the Millionaire Mind Seminar, loving Jerry and Esther, Eckhart Tolle and Wayne Dyer and has it been going ever since.  I went on to perform for Bob Procter, one of The Secret’s main stars, and on to making my own self-development auto suggestion rock album called Passion and Purpose.  More importantly, I changed my “money consciousness” which coincidence or not, I now make much more than what I did when I first went to the Millionaire Mind Seminar.

Of course, it is not the cure-all and my life is still not exactly how I want it.  For example, I’m heading into “work” today when I would rather be home in the recording studio finishing my new Kids music album and possibly sneaking in 9 holes at Candler Park Golf course.  But don’t get me wrong, I’m visualizing that life.

“Karma Dharma” is a funny take on all that and a reminder to try to break away from being on auto-pilot, “The creature of habit living inside me, is so tough to scare away”.

All seriousness goes out the window with the first line: “I was thinking about reaching Nirvana but I was delayed by a few petty crimes”.  The punchline is in the second verse:
“I realize now how to reach Nirvana, first I need to work on my karma, but the only way to affect my karma, is to change all the things about my dharma”.  Ah, spiritual humor, you either have to laugh or be offended I guess.

Happy journey to everyone, no matter what path of righteousness you choose to take.  Thanks for listening!

Jan 17th “Pep Talk”

I went old school today and actually wrote in an old notebook of mine instead of on the computer.  What a trip to put pen to pad without actually touching my iPhone.

I found one of my little old carry arounds and as I sat down at the piano to write tonight a seperate page fell out.

Part of it turned into “Pep Talk”, I was feeling the key of F all day and the words seemed rather Key of F-like.  The song reminds me of all the old piano stuff I used to do and have gotten away from.  It’s awesome to be frequently writing again, even after working all day.

Thanks for listening!
