I did it!!! 365 songs in 365 days. What a year. Over 14 1/2 hours of new music, a total of more than 25 days total of studio work all done while holding down a steady hard labor job with Simply Green Recycling. And then searching and finding a new job in Atlanta (not to mention commuting back and forth between Asheville and Morganton and then Atlanta and Asheville).
The funny thing is I honestly want to keep going. I feel like I’ve got thousands of songs left to write. That’s why I’m going to continue this blog, now called chriscates365.com. Except I’m going to post songs from my entire catalogue along with the occasional new song and songs that I’ve produced or collaborated with other artists. It has been a blast! Thank you to the more than 20,000 visitors that have dropped by to listen!! I truly appreciate it!
I can’t believe it’s November 5th. I wrote October 5th first before I realized we’re already a month ahead of that. This year has flown by. I guess I’ve been busy. At least I’ve got 308 songs to show for it. I guess I’ll always have this blog project to look back on to remember 2010. But that doesn’t mean I’m not super ready for 2011.
I’m finally back home for a day. It’s been several weeks since I’ve had a “day off”. Of course that means my day off is not playing golf at Reem’s Creek, it’s playing catch up recording songs for my 365 songs blog. I’ve still been writing every day, I just haven’t been able to record for three days.
I did some cool things though, aside from the daily work, I saw Phish in Raleigh which was awesome, then I played a show in Sylva last night at their downtown amphi-theatre. We played the best we’ve played with the new line up. It was a blast.
I don’t know about you but I am thoroughly enjoying this once thought impossible task of writing, recording and blogging about a song a day. Some days it’s sucks, I won’t lie. Today was not the ideal time for me to have to write and record a song after basically working or gigging 18 hours a day the last few days, but I still managed to enjoy myself making it happen.
The second this becomes a burden is when things go downhill. Luckily, I can’t wait to hear what I write next. That’s what usually keeps me going.
Today’s song “For No Good Reason” reflects on how some people sabotage themselves and never get what they want. I’ll admit I was a member of this category for a long time. It’s very important to be clear about what you want.
I can’t believe it’s been two months already!! Is it really March? I’m psyched that I’ve managed to write and record 59 songs during that time. It’s been easy at times and it’s been a real pisser a few times.
February was another snowy and cold month, which meant lots of interesting days doing curbside recycling. I had a pretty good time for the most part. And this song a day thing has forced me to itemize every second of my day. I’m left wondering however, when do my aching hands get a rest?
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
