It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since Chris Singleton and I recorded this in my studio in Asheville. A lot has changed since then but he’s still my best bud and favorite musical collaborator.
“Dead Man’s Suit” is the title track from our album of the same name and has always been one of our favorites to play because it has a fun bass line and harmonica part. You gotta love the key of F# major. Thanks for watching!
I had a good time recording some friends of mine today. Wicked Addiction, a heavy metal band out of Hickory also features my bass player Chris Singleton on drums. He rocks it too. It was fun wearing my engineer hat again for the weekend.
Somehow I managed to get up early and write this one. I just got a new analog synthesizer for Chris Cates & the Master Plan live performances and I got to use it on this. I’m now going to be doing synth solos live along with the harmonica and guitar solos. For you techies, I got a Akai MINIAK and I’m liking it so far.
“Six Second Delay” is my Coldplay inspired song for the month. It’s got surreal imagery about the vagueness of life.
Today is a joyous day, Jason Peeler came up and finished all of the drums on our new album “Follow the Feeling”. Now I’ve just got to do my work on guitars, vocals and keyboards and get Chris Singleton and John Kell here to do their parts and we’ll have it done.
Hopefully we can release it by March!
Today’s song takes me back to my elementary school days at Forest Hill. I still think about playing outside and down in the woods. I think I did actually marry a lucky girl in the 2nd grade, luckily we signed a pre-nup.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
