“We have laughed and we have cried, fallen down and learned to fly, we still get by”
Once again, work and life has prolonged my song postings from my new album My Old Soul. Today’s song has some rather existential words and feel good chorus about hope and some very Burt Bacharach-esque musical sections. I will never shy away from using lots of french horn (my favorite instrument) and when you add that in with John Kell’s sax, only good things can happen. Thanks for listening!
We all go through ups and downs in life. Some tragic, some comic, some completely absent of all reason. That’s just the way it goes I guess. But no matter what we always seem to get by.
That happens financially too, no matter how broke you think you are, you still always seem to get by and maintain your normal standard of living. I was just reading about the Russian planter aristocracy, they basically never had any money at all but still lived their whole life in extreme luxury, despite immense debt. Mainly because they were used to that standard of living and mentally and psychically wouldn’t accept a compromise, whether they knew it or not.
Anyway, “We Still Get By” focuses more on getting by from a domestic standpoint. Thanks for listening!!
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
