What a week. Nothing like a good deal of hard labor to get the old blood flowing. Now it’s time for a weekend of solo acoustic gigs. The band has been on hiatus and I’m itching to get out gigging again with them. We crank it back up next week luckily.
This song would not exist if Neil Young was not a mainstay in my music players during my formative years. Writing songs like this remind me of my teenage years driving through the Pisgah forest.
This definitely one of those weeks that I’m testing what incredible hard labor, sleep deprivation and writing and recording music can do to the body. So far so good actually. It’s usually the first few minutes waking up and then around 2:30 when I hit my first wall. Music definitely helps especially stuff that’s up tempo. Jane Austen’s “Emma” on audiobook does not get you going however, I’ve found that out all week.
Today’s song is a little latin instrumental I put together to help with a future second wind I (or hopefully other people too) may need in the future.
My gig down the mountain got canceled last night so I spent a late night in the studio writing and recording. I haven’t done that in a while. I did manage to write and record guitar and bass parts for seven new songs. I’m trying to get ahead before my crazy work (and gig) week next week.
So now, I’ve got a bunch of songs to put words to, which is a great luxury to have. “Dreaming Through the Zig Zags” is by no means the best of the bunch from last night musically. It’s just the first one that came up when I sat down to write tonight.
It turned out pretty spacey with a lot of atmospheric delay on the vocals. I need to experiment as much as possible seeing as how I’ve got 300+ songs left to record this year.
The words are kind of a little motivational speech I’m telling myself to hang in there and keep dreaming big. Even if I am doing hard labor for a living.
Thanks for listening!! Hear “Dreaming Through the Zig Zags” below.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
