Here’s a song for you lucky folks that are going out on a lake this weekend. “Magic on the Water” is a song trying to convey the feeling of being out on the water in the evening taking it all in. The water can be very meditative. Something unfortunately, I don’t get to experience that often.
Oh well, at least I’ve got a song about it. Thanks for listening!
It’s finally time for that perfect Asheville weather, reminding me of why I have loved living here for the past five years. We took our dog Mozart to the Parkway today for a little hike which was mighty nice (aside from a few assorted bee stings).
“Star Tattoo” came from a random conversation I had with Adair this morning. She mentioned something about a star tattoo and I said that sounds like a good song for today. So here it is! Thanks for listening!
Another tough day in the heat. I wish it was winter time already (after having a horrible winter). Anyway, we at least got to drive around Lake James on our new recycling route today. That was nice. That’s probably where this song came from. I sat down when I got home tonight and wrote three different things. This was the first one that made it to the tape. Thanks for listening!
The tire exploded on the recycling truck yesterday afternoon, so it’s been an interesting week. We still managed to get to 220 houses in Hildebran today and pull in about 6000 pounds of stuff. The perfect background for me to come home and write an ambient love song right? This song is more of a mood piece than a normal vocal song. It’s meant to capture that feeling when you first fall in love.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
