I’m catching back up today after being a song behind for about a week. I’ve got another one almost ready to go that I’ll finish a little later today.
My amp is still in the shop so not much electric guitar in the near future. Which is fine for now. After all I have another 341 songs to write for this blog.
“Revelation of Education Dedication” is about enjoying the journey even when you’re upgrading yourself. It actually sounds a little like “Give it More Time” a song off of the upcoming Chris Cates & the Master Plan album.
I went old school today and actually wrote in an old notebook of mine instead of on the computer. What a trip to put pen to pad without actually touching my iPhone.
I found one of my little old carry arounds and as I sat down at the piano to write tonight a seperate page fell out.
Part of it turned into “Pep Talk”, I was feeling the key of F all day and the words seemed rather Key of F-like. The song reminds me of all the old piano stuff I used to do and have gotten away from. It’s awesome to be frequently writing again, even after working all day.
Two weeks in already and fourteen new songs. There’s definitely been ups and downs in the songwriting.
As to be expected with my work and travel schedule. There’s several good ones like “Snow Day”, “Sunday Afternoon Blues”, “Sleeping Sweetly” and my favorite “The Sweetest Thing Is Everything”. Alright back to work. 50 weeks to go!
Today’s song is my lullaby tribute to love. Have a great day!
I got up fairly early and worked on other stuff and then I wrote this right before lunch and then recorded it after the Patriots started getting completely romped.
“The Sweetest Thing is Everything” started with a few old words about inspiration and ended up like it ended up. I finally got to put some of my favorite french horns into one of these new songs (Burt Bacharach style)!
Today I’m actually home on Saturday which is a bit rare. I was scheduled to play for the writers on the High Country Media tour at Beech Mountain but the frozen roads up that way forced me to stay home.
I absolutely hate not making it to gigs.
Oh well, I made the best of it cleaning up my studio and making it a little more recording ready. I also fixed a clearer path to the drums so I don’t have to frantically run to them every time I’m doing a drum take. And I set a permanent mic up on my piano, so we’ll probably be seeing a few solo piano numbers in the future.
Anyway, today’s song “Easy Breezy” was s inspired by “The Shift” a movie by Wayne Dyer that we watched this morning.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
