Day two of my new life in Atlanta. Definitely a big change from my reclusive North Carolina life. I love the energy of the city though. I’m out getting my hustle on trying to make some things happen. So far so good although I do miss having my dog Mozart with me (and of course Adair). That’s kind of what today’s song is about. Thanks for listening!
I had a great time doing my recycling route with Mozart, my dog, today. I haven’t tried that before and he’s actually a great truck companion. I always envisioned that when I was thinking about getting a dog.
Before I wrote today’s song I was thinking about the people that handle the big cats at the MGM in Las Vegas. Don’t ask me why. Probably because I think that would be an ideal job for me. Because my favorite thing in the world is petting my cats. Thanks for listening!
An eventful uneventful day today. I took the puppy (Mozart) with me on my 110 mile commute which was a first. He hasn’t hit the recycling route yet, but hopefully someday.
I’m loving these Spring afternoons. I’m recording with the door open all the time. I just cut the mic down low and none of that noise even comes in. Kind of like the way I recorded every song this winter with the heater blasting in the background. Horray for Pro Tools.
Today’s is another one that just flowed out. I wrote all the words to nothing but a click track running at 128 Bpms. Then grabbed the guitar and changed them to 144 Bpms and we were off and running.
“You Know You’re Gonna Do it” is about how everybody pretty much makes up their mind about something the first second that the situation arises. Trust your intuition, it’ll save you a lot of headache in the end.
I unleashed my white legs on the world today. Spring is officially here, the shorts are out!
I’ve now got a new studio mate, a new puppy named Mozart, to go along with Wario, my cat and long time studio mate. It’s great to get moral support from them. They always give me good feedback. Lionel my other cat drops by the studio from time to time to lend imput but he’s heard too many loud noises in here and isn’t as keen on the studio scene.
Today’s song is “The Truth Might Hurt” it’s the first thing that popped out after my bad outing in the money game at the golf course this morning. Never play golf for money after four hours sleep and an out of town gig.

Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
