Happy New Year! Let’s start the year of with a song about celebrating with friends and reflecting on the past year. 2015 was a good one for me musically and otherwise. I enjoyed my first year with Joy and Coral, my new twins, developed a bunch of solar, managed to release 5 albums and 5 singles and to have a little bit of fun along the way.
Thanks for another great year. Here’s another round for you.
I’ll post another song for today since I haven’t been around to post many this week. This is my song of the day from last year on May 7th. I should have renamed it “What a Beautiful Feeling because it’s Pay Day!”. Thanks for listening!
Jeramy Lamanno is my lifelong best bud, record company partner and musical collaborator. I’m one of his biggest fans too. He hasn’t put any solo work out in a while but you can still catch him on drums playing with Garbage Island, an experience you’ve got to witness. He also runs Lo Yo Yo Stuff in downtown Athens (near the 40 Watt) maybe the best record store in the USA. This is one of his acoustic demos that I assume I was ‘executive producer’ on. That was usually my title on his releases. I’ve always meant to do a version of ‘Fogjuice’ myself. Jerry’s songwriting is superb!
The year and my songs are winding down and I’m already looking forward to next year’s projects. I’m gonna put out a few albums of course and I’m planning on writing my long awaited (by me) golf book which will mix new age philosophy with golf. Sounds like a million seller right? How about some “Window Philosophy” for todays song!
I am really enjoying writing and recording this year. It is pretty cool to dedicate an entire year to that. It’s a struggle some times when it’s late at night and my energy is down. But I seem to always push through. And amazingly, I’ve never had any writer’s block or trouble making new song happen. This endeavor will propel me to my next step in life no matter what it may be. Hopefully, it will be writing and recording more music. Thanks for listening!
I had a prolific weekend writing. I literally wrote at least part of sixteen songs. And I actually finished most of the recording for nine of them. I’m getting a head on my song a days. It’s always nice to have some extra songs for those days that it’s impossible to record. Also, instead of grinding it out until the last day, I want to have the last few weeks wrapped up. Mainly to prove to myself that I not only could do it, but that I could do it easily. Also, I’m ready to start my new album called “Follow the Feeling”. It was written October of ’09 but I’ve been sitting on it since I started this. I can say one thing now, I am committed to making music that’s for sure.
I guess I’m following up my WASPy song from yesterday with another pretty WASPy adult contemporary song for today. Scratch that, this song kind of sounds like a kids song.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
