As usual, after my work week recycling out town and staying away from home a few nights I’m catching up with my songs.
I surprised Adair with a pizza and salad from the grocery store tonight and guess what, that inspired this song.
I’d been watching the PGA tournament and the new kid Rickie Fowler was wearing these awesome Puma pants and that inspired the other half of the song. I love Puma Golf gear, so you’ll probably see me annoying people on the golf course with those same pants this year too.
It’s snowing at least six inches again. This has been a snowy winter to remember which is probably why the snow has inspired several songs in my song a day endeavor. That is most assuredly because it looks so majestic falling outside my studio window as I begin to write.
Although I’m in the small town environment of Asheville “Walking Around the City Tonight” is more about being in the big city during the snow storm, during the quiet of the night.
Our first day with a decent temperature in a while was quite a treat. My college buddy Rob from Chicago just got to town and my other college buddy and Morganton friend Plemplum came to town for the afternoon reunion. We played an awesome 9 holes at Asheville Municipal Golf Course and then had some sushi with a few more good friends.
Then I retired to the studio around 10pm to write and record this song while my friends walked to Chili’s to watch the end of the Carolina game (debacle).
They got home just in time to add some color to the background of tonight’s song. They definitely had a great time doing it and it shows.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
