I know, yet another golf song. My lack of playing must be bringing it out of me. Or maybe the awesome PGA action today with Rickie Fowler and Ricky Barnes.
Every golfer has certain swing thoughts that one says to oneself upon addressing the ball. It’s usually something random that some coach, magazine, friend, TV commentator has said to do. And that’s not necessarily bad. In the long run it probably helps because it gives you a routine and focus. When I play, which is seldom these days, my only swing thought is to hit the ball in the center of the clubface. If you do that it doesn’t matter what’s happening in your swing. Put the Golf Digest down and try that one on for size.
A typical Sunday in that there’s a ton of great sporting events on TV and a ton of stuff to do. Rory McIlroy my favorite golfer put on the greatest golf exibition in history today in Charlotte, that was pretty cool.
I’ve been writing songs every day but haven’t been able to finish the recordings this weekend. They should all be up by Monday night.
Today’s song is “Light Peeking Through the Clouds”, I’ve been writing songs with a little more vivid in their wordplay lately. I kind of continued on that trend today.
It’s Masters weekend again!! Probably one of my top three sporting events behind the NBA Finals and the British Open.
Of course this is Tiger’s big week back and that’s all anybody can talk about. I’m glad he’s back. He obviously looks like he’s ready to kick some butt. I’m not going to get into all of his stuff but it’s also good for people to remember that he’s not the only one out there doing what he did. It would be cool to see him win but the Masters is great because it’s a good story, no matter who wins.
If Tom Watson would pull this one out. That would be the greatest sports moment ever.
Anyway “Tiger’s Back” is kind of a synopsis of the first day’s events at the tournament and about how Tiger’s gonna be gunning for the win.
As usual, after my work week recycling out town and staying away from home a few nights I’m catching up with my songs.
I surprised Adair with a pizza and salad from the grocery store tonight and guess what, that inspired this song.
I’d been watching the PGA tournament and the new kid Rickie Fowler was wearing these awesome Puma pants and that inspired the other half of the song. I love Puma Golf gear, so you’ll probably see me annoying people on the golf course with those same pants this year too.
It’s that one day of the year where all life on God’s Green Earth hinges around a football game. And it looks like it’s gonna be a good one this year. The Vatican is even flying a Saint’s flag!!!!!!!
I figured if I’m doing a song for every day this year I’m obligated to write one about the super bowl on Super Bowl Sunday. That’s where “Because it’s Super Bowl Sunday” came from, it’s for all the guys out there that just don’t want to do the ‘honey-do’s’ today because the game is coming on (at 6:30pm).
The song also gives a run down of some tasty treats that will be over-indulged by us while staring at the tube today. I actually don’t eat many of the things I’m talking about, except for maybe today, “Because it’s Super Bowl Sunday”.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
