I haven’t posted a new golf song in a while, so why not begin with one about the site where this year’s US Open will be. This song speculates if there is a golf god he must live in Pinehurst, NC.
And if you encounter him on the back nine on Sunday, don’t bet against him. Thanks for listening!
Masters Sunday, the best sports day of the year! I had to post a golf song for it. Even though this song is about Pinehurst and not Augusta National. Go Rory!
Our show at Pinehurst last night turned out to be a blast. We had some issues getting there and getting home but we made it safe and sound at least. Playing wedding gigs is always a lot of fun because it’s such a joyous occasion. I played mandolin on about ten songs which I haven’t done in years. Pinewild Country Club looked pretty nice and I’ve heard that it’s a good track as well.
Today’s song is based on an old song I wrote when I was a governer’s page in Raleigh one week back in high school. I remember spending most of my time reading Frank Zappa’s autobiography.
My band is playing in Pinehurst tonight at a wedding rehearsal, so I thought it was only appropriate to write a Pinehurst themed golf song. The last few years I’ve had the pleasure of going to Pinehurst a few times a year to perform or to play in golf tournaments. The Carolina Golf Hall of Fame is there as well and I’m hoping my friend Howard Ward, a wonderful writer who has carried the golf voice of Pinehurst will get the nod this year.
“The Golf God and Pinehurst” is about how if there is a golf god, he’s living in Pinehurst.
What a week and it’s still going. I’ve got an acoustic gig out of town tonight and then drive even farther tomorrow for a Master Plan gig at a wedding in Pinehurst. Weddings are a ton of fun to play. Everybody is there to have a good time. It’ll also be our first gig with our new guitar player and vocalist Chris Campbell.
It’s a country themed thing, so we get to get our country on which is also a lot of fun. Today’s song is a british rock inspired song, created when I put it on the british rock selection on my amp.
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
