Tough day recycling in the heat once again. When is this summer gonna end? I’m ready to write some songs about the fall, my favorite time of year. I put out a concept album back in the day called ‘Fall’. One of my many cassette only releases. It was inspired by Bob Dylan’s ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid’ Soundtrack. That is a great record.
Anyway, this song is kind of funky and probably not one of my best. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
What a week. I’m totally ready for summer to be over. Ten hour days in the heat have not agreed with me like they used to.. I’m ready to catch a break. That’s kind of what today’s song is about. Thanks for listening!
I kicked butt on the old recycling route today. Ten hours straight with no break. The funny thing is I was working extra hard to get a few hours off tomorrow. But tomorrow, I’ll probably start working ahead (like I was doing today) to knock a few hours off of Thursday. Hence, what happened to summer? Going to school as a kid and having all those months off does not prepare you for what summers are going to be like later in life. You mean I have to work instead of going to the pool?
We had our first band practice this morning for all of our summer concert series gigs and it’s amazing how many of my ‘365 songs for 2010’ are going to be part of the program. It’s gotten so I could completely use new songs instead of my old staples (which number in the 40’s). We’re sounding really good with the addition of Chris Campbell, our new guitarist and vocalist.
Today’s song is called “Be Careful How Hard You Search”.
I’ve enjoyed a weekend without a gig. I’m not playing much this month because next month I’m playing a lot of big gigs. It will be very nice to start the new gig season playing so many of my 365 Songs. I’m gonna start all my shows with “Geometrically in Perfect Touch” my favorite tune that I’ve written so far.
Today’s song is one that just came out when I sat down. I’m making a conscious effort to be out of the studio this weekend, so it’s nice to be productive when I’m here. My fence building has taken precedence so far.
I’m starting to put together the show that Chris Cates & the Master Plan is going to play this summer at several Friday Night Concert style events in several different cities. We always string together four or five disco songs during the night because they’re all in the same beat and usually the same key. I’ve now got about six pretty good disco songs of my own to string together which will be lots o’ fun. This is the latest in this style. It may be the best one yet. “Hot, Cold & Out of Control” is a close second.
This one’s chorus is “You better call a doctor, this is the sickest beat, it’s making people sweat and shake the ice cube’s out their drink”. Thanks for listening!
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
