I put this song on the album because I like the way the chorus comes in. It almost sounds like a key change but it’s not. “Sometimes I like to think that I might just get away from the little things. But more and more they grow and grow, become much bigger things. I’m left out to debate… seven ways from sunday”. Thanks for listening!
It’s Sunday, so I’ll post a love song today. I did this music a long time ago and liked it so much I really wanted to put some effort into making the words good. So, I put it off until I felt like it; which turned out to be about eight months later. I’m continuing on my endearing love angle in the wake of my anniversary a few weeks ago. I used to write songs like this all the time before my tendency to make it funky (which happened in college after hearing Dr. Dre and Snoop). Thanks for listening!!
I love Sundays. There is just something about them. Yard work aside that is. Maybe the mowing I did today inspired today’s rocker. It’s funny, when I started this song a day thing, I thought I would do a lot of acoustic / country songs. But I’ve really stuck with the rock for most of the time. I guess I’ll always be a rocker.
A typical Sunday in that there’s a ton of great sporting events on TV and a ton of stuff to do. Rory McIlroy my favorite golfer put on the greatest golf exibition in history today in Charlotte, that was pretty cool.
I’ve been writing songs every day but haven’t been able to finish the recordings this weekend. They should all be up by Monday night.
Today’s song is “Light Peeking Through the Clouds”, I’ve been writing songs with a little more vivid in their wordplay lately. I kind of continued on that trend today.
I got the quote that started today’s song from a great book I’m recording editing for author Kathy Godfrey called F’d. It’s really good. She’s got a lot of great phrasing in it and “Seven Ways from Sunday” is one that popped out at me.
I love to revert back to my major jazz chords to write. I guess that’s my signature songwriting move (aside from trying to be funny). Thanks for listening!!
Day three and I’m already seeing how hard this is going to be from a time standpoint.
Because I’ve been off from recycling and haven’t had gigs this weekend I’ve had more time than usual. So the last two days I’ve spent about 3 hours each day making the songs and giving them a little extra production.
Today I tried to limit myself to an hour but ended up taking an hour and a half. Writing the song, then recording the guitar, keys, drums, bass, synth, lead guitar and six vocal parts takes a minute as you can imagine.
I’m trying to go with ‘first thought best thought’ in the writing process, so whatever the first subject I think about will be the theme of the song.
Today’s song “Sunday Afternoon Blues” is inspired by my dread of the 16 degree temperatures I’ll be working in tomorrow morning and my desire to have fun today. Now that I’m done with this song and all of the studio work I did on my other projects this morning, I’m hoping to talk Adair into going bowling. Wish me luck!
