The First Frost (song of the day)

I’ll continue with the ‘fall songs’ today since I’m actually home and able to do so.  I think last night was supposed to have been the first frost in Atlanta.   I thought to myself do I have a song about that?  And wouldn’t you know it.  I sure do and this is it.  Thanks for listening!

Misty Love Shine. December 4th

It’s kind of a dreary day today in Asheville.  It even sleeted for a little while.   I figured today was a good time to post ‘Misty Love Shine’ since it’s pretty misty and wintery.  Every now and then I’ve got to write a song with all seventh chords.  Thanks for listening!

October 13th “Winter’s Coming Back Again”

Today is supposed to be a little cooler so I figured I’d post this one.   It’s about feeling Fall for the first time.   I wrote a song that started like this, sophomore year at Appalachian State in Cone dorm, but I have no idea where it went from there.  I’m sure I have a TDK with the 8-track Tascam version of that song somewhere.   This version turned out pretty good.   I captured my whole Neil Young and the Bluenotes tone that I used to love so much around that time.  Thanks for listening!

March 28 “That Old Grey Hawk”

I’m officially letting go of winter with this song.  No more snow references or the wind or the temperature.   It’s been a good winter to write about however.    Hopefully that doesn’t mean it’s gonna be a summer to write about (weather related that is).

Anyway, I heard most of the ‘Sweet Baby James’ album by JT today recycling and that’s definitely what inspired this song style.  I added the accordion to give it that french cafe  ambiance that I’ve been longing for.

March 12 “Daydream Sharing”

Today started out looking like a beautiful day.   After raining for a few days it actually looked like spring was finally here.  Then about eleven it became grey and cold again.  Oh well.  It was too wet to play golf today anyway.

“Daydream Sharing” is about lying around on a rainy day being lazy.   This is actually the opposite of what I do on lazy days.   I usually work extra hard in the studio on those days.

Jan. 2nd “Snow Day”

Day two in my quest to write a song and brief commentary every day of 2010.

I’ve had a rare Saturday off on a windy cold snowy day and have gotten to work in the studio all day.

I worked on “Let Out the Zoo” from my upcoming album ‘Follow the Feeling’ and then I wrote and recorded this one.

“Snow Day” is obviously inspired by the coveted snow day school cancellation each student and teacher anticipates each year.

All the instruments are one or two takes and I got to play Jason Peeler’s drums for the 2nd day in a row!
