Outer Banks

Today seems like an Outer Banks kind of day.   This is the story of a man trying to talk a woman into dropping everything in city life and move to the beach to spend the days in the ocean’s waves and the nights singing songs in the beachfront bars.

Slow Beach Music

I’ve got a few hundred songs online streaming and for sale but for some reason this one song has been lapping them all lately as far as how many times it has been streamed and bought.  “Slow Beach Music”, from my Carolina Songs album, is about the last song the band is playing in the bar at 2am.  You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here.  Thanks for listening!  #beachmusic #shagsongs

Beach Beat

In lieu of my Dad’s birthday yesterday, I thought I’d post one of my #shag songs I wrote about him.  In this tune, I tried to simulate the 50’s style blues beat that he loves to dance to.  “Old rubber legs Jim is on the loose again”.   “Beach Beat” is one of several #beachmusic songs featuring Chris Singleton, Jason Peeler and John Kell on my #CarolinaSongs album.

This Might Tickle Just a Little

The eleventh song from “Life’s a Love Song” is a funky blues number with funny lyrics.  “This ain’t no ranch in Cukamonga, no time to reheat your chimichanga.   Just a redneck samba, I’m a little country and sometime’s it shows”.

Randomly enough the second verse is about Columbus, Georgia even though I wrote this a few years ago.  Since then I’ve worked and stayed in Columbus the equivalent of about six months.  It’s a nice city with a cool river running through the down town.   And it has a fantastic tennis facility that I frequent often when I’m there.

Anyway, I’m playing all the instruments on this with John Kell adding the sax embellishments.   I recorded it in Asheville and on the road in Statesboro, Georgia while building a megawatt solar project.    Mastered by Ricky Rodriguez at Bomb House Recording.

The pic below is an article written about my old band, Parakeet Nelson for the Columbus paper back in the day.  We used to have a regular gig there and also played the historic Bradley Theatre one time.   The header pic is of my dogs in Columbus after getting filthy on the solar site that day.

Slow Beach Music (Song of the day)

Summer has made it’s last call, I’m wearing socks consistantly now.  “Slow Beach Music” is a song about closing down the night after last call.  Getting in on last dance.  We’ll see you next year Summer.

Boogie in the Mountains (song of the day)

I’m headed up to Mt. Mitchell Golf Course from Atlanta today to perform with the Master Plan for the “Golftoberfest” celebration.   Mt. Mitchell is a great mountain resort and golf course and Teo’s, the restaurant there is one of the best around.

What better song to post today than “Boogie in the Mountains”, my shag song about getting your dance on in the mountains instead of the beach.   Thanks for listening!
