My new album is finally complete and out today!! Â It took a while to record and finish and there were some casualties along the way but now it’s here! Â “My Old Soul” mixes R&B elements with synthesizers, sax and guitars and has a general concept of loose spirituality and consciousness. Â I’m playing guitar, keys, drums, harmonica etc. with Chris Singleton playing bass on most of the album and John Kell on Sax. Â Â Adair Cates, Jeramy Lamanno, Kerry Jones and John Kell sing back ups.
“What a Beautiful Feeling” is the first song and it gets the good vibes going right away.  I tried to show a little motown influence on it while throwing in a big #TreyAnastasio like guitar solo to bring it home.  Thanks for listening!   #newmusic  #chriscates  #myoldsoul
I’ve been really digging this song lately. Â It’s from December 2nd’s song of the day effort. Â I really didn’t notice it much back then but it’s been growing on me. Â Thanks for listening!
DaOne McGimpsey and I have worked together a bunch over the last ten years. Â I’ve always felt like he is an extremely gifted songwriter that really knows how to tell a story and convey emotions in a song. Â We first worked together on the classic ‘Team OX Family’ album then we got together and did his first solo record ‘Today Here, Tomorrow the World’. Â This is the title track to that album that I produced and it sums up the different themes of the album. Â I felt it was in line with my new year, new beginning theme I’ve had going. Â Thanks for listening and check out DaOne’s albums on CDBaby, Amazon or iTunes. Â Â
Welcome to Chris Cates.com. I'm an old school independent artist with lots of albums, songs, solar panels etc. This site tries to encapsulate what it is I've been doing since I played my first professional gig at 13. I post a song of the day occasionally from my somewhat excessive original song catalogue and I'm constantly recording new material when I'm not building solar farms, trying to play golf or tennis or taking care of my new twin girls.
